One of the emotional problems facing couples who go through an IVF treatment using donor eggs centers on the fact that the child born carries the DNA of the father but not of the mother who carries the baby. To an extent the woman feels cheated and depressed that it is not her own baby as there is nothing of her in the baby to be born.
A study that was carried in a leading Spanish Fertility Clinic in Valencia should give these women something to cheer about.
In the study they found that secretions from the mother’s womb penetrated the implanted embryo passing “something of herself” to the child. Their study was published in the medical journal Development.
The news was reported in “The Times” today.
