After nearly 6 weeks of strike and protests by the Junior doctors the Government in West Bengal appears to be in a mood to tackle some of the issues raised to improve the safety and security of the doctors.
The young doctors have now withdrawn the strike after the Chief Minister promised to initiate some of the demands of the protesting doctors. The doctors are also setting up a Clinic in the name of the murdered doctor to treat flood affected people in the region. They are naming the clinic “Abhaya Clinic”
The young doctors have also indicated that their fight will go on till the safety and security of all the doctors is completely ensured. The State government has appointed former Director-General of Police Surajit Kar Purkayastha to conduct security audits of all medical colleges and hospitals. The State government has also suggested that a centralised helpline number as well as panic call button alarm system should also be made available in every healthcare facility. The State government has also directed that immediate steps should be taken for filling up of vacant posts of doctors, nurses, technicians etc.
