HPV may triple risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Researchers from the University of New South Wales in Australia reviewed 21 case-control studies on esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and found that 35% of tissue samples related to the cancer had human papillomavirus DNA. The link between HPV DNA and esophageal cancer was more pronounced in areas with low to medium incidences of the cancer compared with regions where it is more prevalent, according to the meta-analysis.
