      Surgery International reports that a Dutch man made history by becoming the longest surviving heart transplant recipient. Bert Janssen, 57, had his transplant at Harefield Hospital in Uxbridge, London, during the 1980s. He was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy at the age of 17. Surgery was performed by Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub. He had his surgery on June 6 1984.’

      Following the procedure, he regained a good quality of life. He is married with 2 children
