Diabetic Neuropathy in the Hands
TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
This cross-sectional study investigated the somatosensory dysfunction in the hand in people with diabetes and distal symmetrical polyneuropathy (DSPN) and explored early signs of this condition. People with DSPN in the hands and feet had widespread loss of thermal and mechanical detection and those with DSPN limited to the feet showed a similar profile of widespread loss of nerve function in their hands.
Nerve function assessment in the hands should be considered in the routine assessment of neuropathy in people with diabetes.
