A little while ago the local newspapers reported that a lot of chicken bought from supermarkets are contaminated with bacteria. It is estimated that 19% of the chicken bought in supermarkets are heavily contaminated with camphylobacter that can kill an individual. In 7% the outside of the packaging was also contaminated. Workers entering the giant sheds where the chickens are reared usually infect them through their clothing and machinery.
Although the bacteria are killed when the meat is well cooked, by storing the uncooked chicken close to cooked food in a refrigerator you can easily transfer the bacteria to the cooked food even when the packaging is intact. The transfer can also happen when you transport the uncooked chicken with ready-made eatables that one will consume in the same bag (from shop to home).
