Fecal microbes in pill form fight Clostridium difficile
Canadian researchers were able to eliminate Clostridium difficile infection in 27 patients who were unresponsive to antibiotics by administering triple-coated gel capsules containing fecal microbes. The patients were asked to take 24 to 34 pills that are designed to dissolve in the colon. The technique is a promising alternative to fecal transplants and may pave the way for new treatments.
