Monkey Pox – Should We Worry?
November 9 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeAfter the news media’s interest in reporting about Corona Virus started to wane, a new infection called the “Monkey Pox” caught their attention. The WHO in 2023 indicated that a global outbreak of “MPox” was possible. The general population is not very sure if this is something serious that they should worry about. To increase one’s anxiety newspapers around the world now report on any patient admitted to a local hospital with Mpox. Should we worry? How does it spread?
To get a clearer picture we asked Prof. Ravi, a senior virologist in Bangalore to tell us a little about this new disease. He agreed to talk to us at our next online meeting.
Prof. Ravi needs no introduction as he has addressed us a few times in the past. He was the Senior Professor and Head of the Dept of Virology at NIMHANS in Bangalore. During the pandemic he had served on many Task Force and Scientific Advisory Committees. After retirement he was appointed as Co-Chairman of Vaccine Committee, Ministry of Science and Technology, India. He was involved with several research projects connected with the development of vaccines at various centres in India. He is still very active with his research projects.
