About Us
In 2019 a few old graduates of Madras Medical College got together and decided to establish a Foundation to support our College, its students and to undertake some charitable work.
Madras Medical College is one of the oldest medical schools in India. The College that began as a private Medical Hall run by Dr Mortimar of the East India Company was regularised and opened as a medical school by the then British Governor, Sir Frederick Adam, in 1835. Since then many famous doctors have graduated from our College. Today many are working at prestigious institutions around the world, We are proud of them all.
Unlike many other colleges, Madras Medical College lacked a formal channel through which alumni could donate money to support its students and the College. Over the years, many of us recognized the need for a transparent and regularly audited association for this purpose. Thus, the Madras Red Fort Doctors Foundation was born.

Most alumni began their medical education at the “Red Fort,” where anatomy was taught. This historic building holds a special place in our hearts, and it inspired the name “Madras Red Fort Doctors Foundation.” Our Foundation was officially registered on 23rd October 2019. It operates as a non-profit organization, raising funds to support charitable activities, our College, its graduates, and any medical student in India.
The objectives set forth in our articles of association are:
- To encourage and advocate academic, social, and ethical values among all medical students in India.
- To support graduates and postgraduates of Madras Medical College without any racial, religious, community, or social prejudice.
- To offer financial support to any deserving medical student in India.
- To promote high-quality medical and healthcare services among all medical graduates in India.
- To provide free and subsidized medical services without profit motives.
- To promote research in medicine, healthcare, and related fields.
- To carry out other health-related charitable outreach activities for the benefit of society.
Achieving these objectives requires substantial funding. We raise funds through Foundation memberships and donations. Any graduate or postgraduate of Madras Medical College can become a regular member, any medical student can become a Student Member, and any doctor who graduated from India can become an Associate Member. Membership fees vary based on the membership category. Today, we have just over 60 members. A small amount contributed regularly by many can accumulate into something significant that will make a big difference.
By joining the Foundation, members can support our charitable activities, network with other graduates around the world, exchange ideas, and seek expert advice when needed. We appeal to all our graduates to join us in achieving our objectives.
