Study: Sleep deprivation may affect adenoma detection rate
A study in The American Journal of Gastroenterology said physicians who were on call the night before performing a screening colonoscopy found adenomas in 30% of patients, compared with 39% for doctors who were not on call. “It is imperative for screening physicians to be aware of the influence of sleep deprivation on procedural outcomes and to consider altering their practice accordingly,” researchers wrote.
