      Current advice:

NICE guidance on myocardial infarction with ST-segment elevation recommends
that people with acute ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) should be assessed
immediately for eligibility for coronary reperfusion therapy (irrespective of age, ethnicity or sex).

The preferred type of reperfusion therapy is primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI), provided
this can be delivered within 2 hours of the time when fibrinolysis could have been given.

Intravenousfibrinolysis should be offered where such timely pPCI cannot be delivered. Coronary reperfusion
therapy should be delivered as quickly as possible.

The guidance on non-ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) recommends that people
with NSTEMI should be offered aspirin as soon as possible.

Other treatments that should be offered, depending on their suitability for the patient, include another antiplatelet drug clopidogrel and an
antithrombin therapy (fondaparinux or unfractionated heparin).

      Early coronary angiography, with PCI
or coronary artery bypass graft surgery where appropriate, should be offered.

Do let me know if more detail is needed.
