SUMMARY:Student Seminar - Two Interesting Cases
DESCRIPTION:This month\, two medical students from Madras Medical College will be presenting clinical cases as part of our Student Seminar Series. The First one presented by Aarav Joshua Paul “When Fever Refuses to Fade” is particularly down‑to‑earth — the kind of patient we encounter frequently in general hospitals across India. Its strength lies in its simplicity and relevance: it reflects the real clinical challenges that young doctors face every day. \nBy discussing a common yet important presentation\, the student will demonstrate how careful history‑taking\, thoughtful clinical reasoning\, and practical management can turn an ordinary case into an excellent learning opportunity. \nThe second case\, presented by Adarsh Chandramouli\, “When Immunity Fails – A Case of Disseminated CNS Aspergillosis in Suspected Primary NK Cell Deficiency” appears more complex and involved than what we usually expect from a second‑year medical student. This makes it particularly interesting — it will be valuable to see how the student structures the presentation\, identifies the key issues\, and explains the clinical reasoning behind each step. \nComplex cases often reveal a student’s ability to prioritise information\, simplify difficult concepts\, and communicate clearly. It will be a good opportunity for all of us to observe how a young student approaches a challenging scenario.

SUMMARY:Diabetic Striatopathy
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Shreeman\, a newly qualified graduate from Panimalar Medical College\, Varadarajapuram\, Poonamallee\, Chennai\, will present an interesting clinical case titled “Diabetic Striatopathy” — a rare neurological complication arising from poorly controlled diabetes. \nIndia is often described as the Diabetic Capital of the World\, with millions affected across all age groups. What is particularly concerning is the underdiagnosis of diabetes in young people\, leading to serious complications that could have been prevented with early detection and proper management. The case being presented is a striking example of how uncontrolled diabetes can manifest in unexpected and severe ways. \nThis promises to be an insightful and thought‑provoking discussion\, highlighting both the clinical features of this rare condition and the broader public‑health challenge posed by diabetes in India.

SUMMARY:Presentation Skills using Power Point Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Presenting a topic using PowerPoint is a skill that demands thoughtful planning\, clarity of content\, and consistent practice. When executed well\, it enhances the quality of a presentation and sustains the attention of the audience. \nIt is often observed that speakers tend to overcrowd their slides with excessive information and subsequently read directly from them. This detracts from the effectiveness of the presentation. With appropriate guidance\, this tendency can be readily corrected. \nAt the previous meeting\, an announcement was made regarding a session on effective PowerPoint presentations\, focusing on essential principles\, common pitfalls\, and techniques for confident delivery. We are pleased to inform that Dr Arjun Rajagopalan\, former Medical Director\, Trustee\, and Head of the Department of Surgery at Sundaram Medical Foundation for over two decades\, has graciously agreed to address our students on best practices in case presentation using PowerPoint. \nDr Rajagopalan is widely regarded as an outstanding teacher and an accomplished orator. He is a distinguished graduate of Madras Medical College and was awarded the Best Outgoing Student of his cohort. His session will be concise\, insightful\, and of high practical value\, with a duration of approximately 20–25 minutes.
